Online - Mental health courses; modular format

Four 2hr sessions:

  • Module 1 Mental Health Awareness (foundation)

  • Module 2 Understanding mental ill health & offering support (completes core syllabus)

  • Module 3 Mental Health Awareness for Managers

  • Module 4 Mental Health Awareness for Senior Managers

The two core syllabus modules are for all staff. Managers and senior managers then complete their respective follow up module (many senior managers have chosen to do module 3 as well)

Mental Health First Aid courses
 

MHFA England have now relaunched this course with a fully updated format & the new First Aider support App!

The MHFA model is internationally recognised and evidence based. It was launched in England in 2007 supported by the Dept of Health and Public Health England.

 

The courses below are MHFA England certificated courses which aim to increase mental health literacy, awareness and confidence. The full MHFA courses teach people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue. 

At Get Mental Health Training our instructors are both MHFA England accredited and mental health professionals with many years clinical and managerial experience. We have been delivering these packages to a consistently high standard to wide and varied audiences since 2011.

Adult Mental Health First Aid

Two day course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider:

  • An in depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing

  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues

  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress

  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening

  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix

All courses below are designed by our Founders and Principal Trainers and supported by Get Mental Health Training materials. Our expertise as educators, clinicians and managers alongside our in depth knowledge of mental health and wellbeing, enable us to create quality tailored packages which can adapted to meet the specific needs of your organisation.

Our courses typically encompass education and skills training in mental health, influencing workplace culture and maximising wellbeing and resilience.  We regularly create training on other topics and the course content below can be modified as required.

Workplace mental health

for managers

One day course designed to raise managers awareness of mental health issues in the workplace, the drivers for doing so and empower managers to support staff appropriately:

  • Understand the drivers and responsibilities for employers

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health disorders and psychosis

  • Identify suicide warning signs

  • Understand the relationship between stress and performance

  • To review management ability in managing workplace stress

  • Identify how to respond and the resources/support available

Enhanced workshops 1 2

Two half day courses specifically designed to provide enhanced post-training support for Mental Health First Aiders or equivalent.

The workshops comprise of three key elements:

  • Develops existing knowledge gained from prior learning

  • Explores additional mental health topics

  • Provides for facilitated group reflection on the post-training experience

Developing Personal Resilience

One day course providing an in depth understanding of what drives our behaviours, influences our effectiveness and what can threaten both our mental and physical health:

  • Delegates have an opportunity to assess their own stress profile and current levels of resilience. 

  • Delegates are taught to identify and use approaches and techniques which help build personal strength and self confidence.

The key areas of focus are;

  • Enhancing personal control.

  • Developing skills  in negotiating and interacting with others

  • Techniques for assessing and managing excessive demands

Mental Health

Awareness & Skills

One day course tailored to specific settings.

To enable delegates to understand mental health/illness, to recognise risk factors and signs of poor mental health and to develop skills for their work sector:

  • Define mental health and mental ill health

  • Identify risk and protective factors for mental health

  • Be aware of stress and the effect on performance

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health disorders and psychosis

  • Identify suicide warning signs

  • Identify how to respond and the resources/support available

Stress management

Half day workshop providing an understanding of stress from healthy pressure to uncontrollable levels of discomfort/anxiety:

  • Self awareness and monitoring of the physical, psychological and behavioural effects of stress

  • Identifying stressors.

  • Stress management techniques including lifestyle choices, relationships, managing work demands,

  •  Resources to help manage stress

Suicide Prevention

Half day workshop to raise awareness of suicide risk and confidence and skills in suicide prevention:

  • Raises awareness

  • Gives an overview of occurrence

  • Increases awareness on risk of suicide

  • Equips delegates with basic skills in asking, listening and supporting

  • Provides awareness of resources and services

  • Gives information on taking appropriate action

  • Qualifies you as an Adult MHFA Champion

Half day course for Champions and First Aiders to renew, update & practice:

  • MHFA England's guidance recommends, that just like physical first aid, the valuable skills learnt during training need to be refreshed and updated

This keeps your CPD up to date and provides access to the new Support App

Adult Mental Health First Aid Awareness

Half day course is an introductory session to raise awareness of mental health:

  • An understanding of what mental health is and how to challenge stigma

  • A basic knowledge of some common mental health issues

  • An introduction to looking after your own mental health

  • Confidence to interact with someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue

  • Insight into the two day course and the benefits of becoming a Mental Health First Aider
